5 Red River Winter Activities for the Adrenaline Junkie

While many may think that New Mexico is warm all year round, it has its cool months! With winter right around the corner and the weather already starting to change, it is time to plan the perfect winter getaway! Red River has a wide variety of things to do during all of the seasons, but winter is when the ski slopes come alive and the trails become a winter wonderland. Skiing & Snowboarding

Red River has a wide variety of slopes and areas that make up a perfect ski destination. While we will talk about the cross country skiing options later, that still leaves the Red River Ski and Summer area! Don’t let the name fool you – there is far more to do than just winter activities at this park. If you’re looking for a place to test your skills and make the most of your time, check out one of the multiple terrain parks! The Hollywood Terrain Park, with the biggest jumps, jibs, and hits, will appease any adrenaline craving.

Snowmobiling and ROVs

There is a multitude of different trails available for perusal, from casual trails around Sawmill Canon to a trail that will take you all the way up to Greenie Peak – 11,249 feet up! This unique way to see the mountain can allow for crazy gorgeous views of Red River while also getting the blood pumping as you cruise throughout the specially-made snowmobile trails. If ROVs (Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles) are more your style, take one of those instead! But don’t forget to read the rules and regulations!

Tubing

Barreling down a mountain is fun – barreling down a mountain in a tube is a rush! Enjoy the slopes of the Red River Ski and Summer Area in a new way by taking a dive down it in a tube! The views from the ski area are incredible, and sliding down the slopes in the tube provides a whole host of fun – especially for the whole family! Adrenaline junkies of all ages are welcome to get their hearts pumping.

Snowshoeing

Go where skiis can’t go, and go snowshoeing! Wander into different parts of the mountain and experience nature up close and personal. The Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area has miles of dedicated snowshoeing trails, leaving opportunity for adventure behind every turn!

Cross Country Skiing

There are miles of trails available at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area, and even trails that are perfect to bring man’s best friend to! Don’t leave your pet at home for this fun, adrenaline-filled outing. These trails are well-groomed, and just blooming with opportunity for adventure.
