School’s Out! Why Families are Choosing Red River for Summer Vacation

school is out for summer

It’s summer here in Red River and we are excited to see you! Summertime in the mountains is all about enjoying the cool mountain breeze and spending time with family.

Family Friendly

Red River is not only pet-friendly but also kid and family-friendly. There isn’t anywhere in our little town that isn’t ready for your family, except for the saloon of course. Stop for dinner at any of the restaurants after riding go-carts at Go Kart City, located across the street from our office. For the families that love to fish, grab your fishing pole and fishing license and hit any of the ponds in town. If you don’t have a New Mexico fishing license, don’t worry, our friends over at Sitzmark can help you with that and also offer some help with whatever fishing necessities you may need.

Hiking Trails

Grab your hiking boots and backpack and head out on a family hiking trip. The Red River Nature Trail is a good trail to walk for all skill levels. This trail is about 3 miles long and you walk close to the river most of the way. Middle Fork Lake Trail is a 4.3 mile hike. This trail is considered a moderate hike and takes you to a beautiful lake and is also a popular trail to take the dogs on.

ROV Trail Rides

Whether you are bringing your own or renting a ROV from Weezie’s it’s great for families with children of all ages. Take a ride on any of the trails we have throughout the town. Start your day riding on Pioneer Creek and take in the beautiful river as you drive. An old coal mining cave is on this trail, so be sure to pull over and take a look inside, you won’t regret it! One trail that is a must-do while here in Red River is Goose Lake. Be sure you pack your lunch and a rain jacket if this is on your to-do list. Once you take the 8 mile ride up to Goose, you won’t want to hurry back down. Enjoy your day sitting by the lake fishing for trout. If you’re feeling spontaneous, take the hike up to Gold Hill where you can see Taos Ski Valley. It’s truly an amazing view!

Red River Ski And Summer Area

Enjoy the time you will spend at the Ski and Summer Area. During the summer there are so many family-friendly things to do. For example, take a ride on the Summer Mountain Tubing and then hit the ropes course at the Hidden Treasure Ariel Park. There are ropes courses for every skill level including a zip line that takes you to the other end of the course. Call Red River Ski And Summer Area before your arrival to reserve your days and times for both. The scenic chair lift is also open and ready to take your family to the Summit. While you are at the top, walk around and enjoy the views of Red River and walk the nature trails we have. After your walk grab a bite to eat at The Tip Restaurant.

A summer vacation in the mountains will give you the best family bonding experience you could ever wish for. The time and memories you make here will want you coming back every year! We can’t wait to hear all the stories about your family vacation to Red River.
