Taos, New Mexico, one of the Enchanted Circle towns, offers a variety of outdoor activities that you can’t find in our small town of Red River. As you know, the Rio Grande River flows along the west side of Taos, which offers white water rafting for beginners and experienced rafting enthusiasts.

White Water Rafting in Taos

Rafting in Taos is not just an adventure; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. With the Rio Grande River as your playground, you’ll be guided by experienced locals through some of the best rapids in the United States. The thrill and beauty of white water rafting in Taos is a must-do when you’re in the Enchanted Circle. Big River Raft Trips, a locally owned and operated company, offers half-day and full-day trips on the Rio Grande. These trips, suitable for everyone aged six and up, are a perfect family excursion! 

Rafting season in Taos begins in the spring and ends in the fall. Regardless of where you choose to raft, we are sure you’ll agree that it is some of the best rafting you’ve ever experienced. Mountain Skills has a rock climbing course designed for anyone seven years old and up. You can start your morning climbing or rappelling into the Rio Grande Gorge. After, enjoy a nice lunch on the banks of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument area and raft through the rapids. This same trip can also be done in reverse order if you would rather raft first thing! Trips can be booked from April 15 to October 15, with the biggest whitewater conditions being in May and June. 

Rock Climbing in Taos
