As the temperatures start to drop in the mountains, the adventures start to heat up. The colors are changing, the Aspen Butterfly is starting to appear, and folks are out chopping their firewood; so get ready to break out the marshmallows cause Fall in Red River is here! We often get the question, “What’s your favorite fall activity?” and to tell you the truth, we have a few favorites.
Horseback Riding
The cool fall weather is our favorite time to stop by the Red River Stables, saddle up and head out on one of their guided tours. Even as Red River locals, we enjoy taking the tour around the mountain to hear all the interesting facts the guides share. Plus, the kids LOVE being able to spend the day “playing with the horsies”, as our little girl would say.
Here’s a little secret. If you want to ride a horse, then you take the tour around town. If you want to go up the mountain then you will find yourself riding a steady mule. Don’t worry, they are not like the stereotype at all. They are used for the mountain hikes simply because of their stable footing.
Fall Events
Fall begins with fun events such as the Annual Bluegrass Festival, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Fair, and the Red River Folk Festival. But one of our favorite fall events is Oktoberfest! We can’t wait to gather at Brandenburg Park and enjoy authentic German food, music, arts, and local exhibitors.
ROV Adventures
Let’s not forget the ROVs! Locals and visitors alike love taking to the trails and exploring the mountains! Red River has rules and regulations for their use, but there is a lot of freedom to them, which makes our little town so unique!
Exploring the Wildlife
We talk about the hiking trails and the fishing areas a lot, but with good reason. I mean, have you seen how beautiful the area is?! We just can’t get enough of the fresh air, the crisp colors of the aspens, and the serene sounds of the water flowing down the river. The best thing about exploring the area is that you never know what you might encounter. Our favorite critters to stumble upon are the curious little chipmunks.
Gathering Around the Fire
Fall is the time to relax and unwind with friends and family before the craziness of the holiday season starts. Grab the firewood and head out to one Valley View’s two fire pits and get those marshmallows roasting. The world starts to melt away a little more with each messy bite of a s’more.
From horseback rides to roasting marshmallows over an open fire, there’s a fall favorite for everyone in Red River. There’s no better time to take a drive down Bobcat pass and find your fall fascination.
