Red River or Taos – What You Need to Know Before You Book

When deciding on a destination for your next family vacation there are a few options you can choose from in the Enchanted Circle. Between Eagle Nest, Angel Fire, Taos, Questa, and Red River two of those cities are the most popular when it comes to family trips; Taos and Red River.

Red River, NM

Located about one hour north of Taos, Red River is known as the Texans’ playground. The small little ski town is about one mile long and big on its natural beauty. Family oriented, Red River is the perfect place for the whole family to visit. Red River offers everything you need in about one square mile (unless you prefer to stay in the Upper Valley). Whether you’re staying in the Upper Valley or in town you have access to almost anything and everything you need to make your family vacation enjoyable and memorable.

Hiking/ROV Trails

Red River offers some of the best hiking and ROV trails in Northern New Mexico. One of the best parts about it is that some of our properties have trailer parking so you may drive your ROVs straight from your cabin to the trails. You may also drive your ROVs to town and in town as long as you stay off of Main Street. You may cross Main Street to get to High Street, and River Street. It really comes in handy when you’re out for a ride and decide to grab dinner in town before you head back to your cabin. Please make sure that you comply with the local ordinances and requirements before driving your ROV in the town limits.  This is something that the small town of Red River offers that you won’t find in Taos.

Various Fishing Spots in Red River, NM

From fishing in the river to the town ponds you’re bound to catch an amazing dinner! Stop by any of the local stores for fishing equipment or bait. Sitzmark or Williams Hardware has some of the best to choose from and both stores know their fishing for Red River trout! Winter Activities in Red River, NM

Snowshoeing

Enchanted Forest offers cross country skiing and snowshoeing as well as Yurts for lodging. Book a time this winter to snowshoe through the Enchanted Forest and then head back to town for dinner at Capo’s for some yummy Italian food.

Snowboarding/Skiing

Planning your ski trip to Red River is a smart one due to the proximity to the slopes. You can stay as close to the mountain as you’d like or stay in the Upper Valley and have no problem getting to the lifts with the right vehicle. That is one of the best things about Red River, the town is located at the bottom of the ski lift. If there are some people in your group that don’t want to ski, then they have the whole mile stretch of town to shop til they drop!

Take your pick of hiking, fishing, horseback riding, shopping, and winter activities, there is something for everyone. Red River is like an all-in-one-stop kind of place.
