There always seems to be something exciting going on in Angel Fire. While we offer a wide array of activities to keep you busy any time of year, our favorite festivals always bring a series of fun events, exceptional food and wine, arts and crafts, and plenty of smiles all around! Be sure to plan your visit to the Enchanted Circle to line up with one of our favorite festival events and you’re sure to have the time of your lives!
January in Angel Fire
Each year, we kick off our annual tradition with the Polar Bear Plunge and Stomp at Eagle Nest Lake on January 1st. If the water in the lake isn’t at adequate depth, it transitions to a Polar Bear Stomp, followed by a Disc Golf Championship. Finish off the festivities with hot beverages and cookies to warm back up.
February in Angel Fire
Grab a shovel and some adrenaline and enjoy a fun run at the Championship Shovel Races, located at the Angel Fire Resort. Each competitor sits on the scoop of a standard snow shovel with the handle pointed downhill. Kick up your hands and feet and allow gravity to do its thing. Be prepared for a thrill since top speeds have been known to exceed over 60 miles per hour! This event usually takes place the first weekend of the month.
June In Angel Fire
Mid-June brings one of our favorite festivals of the year to Frontier Park! It kicks off with our annual Habla Tamale Cook-off and Festival, where you’re sure to fill your bellies with some of the best-tasting tamales you can find! The competition offers the opportunity for you to sample each entry in the Tamale contest. You can choose to participate in the Tamale eating contest, sample local wines and brews, and walk around enjoying the arts and crafts displays. The festival even offers a Kids Zone to entertain the littles!
Father’s Day weekend brings one of the biggest events of the year. Balloons over Angel Fire is located at 3555 NM Hwy 434. This is an annual hot-air balloon festival featuring balloon enthusiasts from all over the world. You can enjoy the daily take-off of the balloons or catch a ride in a hot-air balloon to enjoy the amazing views of the Enchanted Circle.
July In Angel Fire
4th of July: Enjoy fireworks over Eagle Nest Lake State Park. Come out and celebrate Independence Day with live music, grilled goodies, and vendors’ fair.
Early July also brings the Annual Arts Fest. This highly favored art show offers a plethora of art from local artists and artists of neighboring states. You’re sure to have a ball enjoying the food, art, and entertainment offered these two days. The festival is located at the Angel Fire Community Center.
At the end of July is the Annual High-Country Arts & Crafts Festival at Enchanted Eagle State Park. This art festival is another opportunity to enjoy one-of-a-kind art by qualified artisans and crafters around our region. Enjoy sculptures, photography, oil and watercolor paintings, jewelry, handcrafted and recycled items. Food and brew vendors, live music, and auctions will also be onsite.
August In Angel Fire
Angel Fire’s Summer Music Festival takes place at the Angel Fire Community Center, beginning around mid-August. This festival celebrates musicians from local communities performing an array of melodies from classical, baroque, romantic, and contemporary genres.
Each Friday from around mid June until the end of August, head down to Frontier Park in the heart of Angel Fire to enjoy live music, beer, food vendors, and cool Summer evenings. Be sure to bring your own chairs and blankets. This family-friendly event is free for all to enjoy.
Each Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can enjoy a weekly showcase of local and regional artists and farmers offering a diversity of arts, crafts, and foods to purchase. Just head on down to Frontier Park to enjoy this weekly event. These weekly markets usually run from around June mid June until early September.
