March Madness Red River Style

Spring skiing is here and it’s the best time for other outdoor activities in Red River, New Mexico such as hiking, fishing, and ROV riding. You’re working from home and your children are doing school virtually, so take the opportunity and come see us in the mountains.

As another ski season comes to an end, the weather becomes erratic. It may snow one day and the next day the sun may be shining and it’s good weather to grab your fishing poles and hit the ponds.

Skiing In Red River

Snow lovers can take advantage of the Red River Ski Area. Grab your skis or snowboard or rent the equipment from Sitzmark and enjoy a day on the mountain. Don’t wait – reserve your rented equipment online ahead of time and save 10% on your rentals! Red River Ski Area  is open and operating lifts through March 21, 2021. At this time, it is still mandatory to purchase your lift tickets at least one day in advance due to limited daily lift tickets.  We also suggest renting your equipment in advance, if possible.  

Snowshoeing at the Enchanted Forest

Guided snowshoeing tours in the Enchanted Forest include a lesson on natural and human history, snowshoes, snow boots, trekking poles, trail passes, and a hot beverage. You have the choice to begin your trek in the morning at 10:00 am or in the afternoon beginning at 1:30 pm. The 1.5 hour tour offers beautiful scenery of the Enchanted Forest and seeing wildlife. Book your tour ahead of time with Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area. Groups are limited to 5 people, including your instructor, so book your tour ahead of time to be sure you can include your family.

Fishing in Town – Red River Style

Purchase your fishing license online before you arrive so you can head straight to the city ponds to catch your dinner for the night. Sloan from Red River Angler and Sport is offering guided fly fishing for the novice and the experienced angler on both private and public waters. Half day and full day guides are offered and both include fly, rod and tackle.

Riding ROVs  in Red River

Depending on how much snow is on the ground, you may be able to ride a few of the ROV trails. If you’re staying in the Upper Valley it’s possible that you can ride around the area if there isn’t too much snow. Pack a lunch and take a day drive to Cabresto Lake and enjoy the lake while you fish or watch other fishermen. It may be cold, but as long as you bundle up you’ll enjoy your time on the drive over.

Enjoy a hot meal and a nice cold beer at The Red River Brewery while you watch March Madness and cheer on your favorite college  basketball team.

*As of Wednesday, February 24, 2021 Red River is now at a level green. Level green gives restaurants a 75% maximum occupancy inside, bars are allowed to open and serve at a 33% max capacity indoors and 75% outdoors. The state of New Mexico will also no longer require self-quarantine for those traveling to New Mexico from other states.
